Terri Bonoff is a Coward
Prior to the weekend, I received an email from my recently re-elected state senator Terri Bonoff. It contained a link to her February 22, 2008 Capitol Update #2. Here’s a taste of her take on the DFL’s “Safe Roads and Bridges Improvement Act” that had just passed the senate.
The legislation provides a $6.6 billion investment int he state’s transportation infrastructure over the next ten years and creates 33,000 new jobs per year.
This sounds great doesn’t it? I kept reading,
This bipartisan effort includes several of the governor’s transportation funding proposals. The bill includes a $1.8 billion trunk highway bonding program, along with bonding $50 million for local bridge replacement and $10 million for local road improvements.
THE END.
That was her description of the bill. Notice anything missing? In her constituent communication she completely forgot to mention anything about any tax increases. Not one single word. No mention about the increased gas tax, the half sent metro wide sales tax, or the increased license tab fees.
Do you think she did this unintentionally? No, me neither, but just in case, I emailed her office this simple question.
Why did your Capitol Update fail to describe or even mention any of the tax increases in the recently passed Transportation Bill?
I am still waiting for a response. I’ll post it when (if) I get one.
